Lancers Win Finale; Sweep Season Series with Raiders (2/23)
The Lancers finished off their 2011-12 basketball season with a win against Shawnee Mission South. After a close 1st quarter, the Lancers exploded for an 18 point lead at half-time. The Lancers traded baskets with the Raiders the rest of the way and won the game by 17 points for a 47-30 win.
The Lancers won all three games with the Raiders this year. The win also allowed the Lancers to finish with a .500 record at 10-10. Thank you Coach Chipman and Coach Scott. Go Lancers!
Lancers Hit High Point Total in Win (2/16)
The Lancers broke their three game losing streak with a convincing win against Shawnee Mission North. Despite a slow start (5-4 score at the end of the 1st quarter), the Lancers outscored the Indians in the final three quarters 45-16 for a final winning score of 50-20. It was the first time all season that the Lancers have scored 50 points. Forced turnovers, good rebounding, and solid shooting made the difference in the 3rd quarter where the Lancers extended their lead.
Next up…the final game of the season. The Lancers play an away game against the Shawnee Mission South Raiders on February 23rd. With a 9-10 record, the Lancers have a chance to finish the season with a .500 record with a win. Go Lancers!
Olathe East Tops Lancers (2/13)
Olathe East built an early lead and continued to extend it throughout the game. The Hawks eventually won by 19 points.
Next up…the final home game of the season against Shawnee Mission North.
Olathe South Outshoots Lancers (2/6)
Olathe South used 3 point shooting and a solid defense to build a 15 point half-time lead. The Lancers couldn’t close the gap and lost to the Falcons by 17 by a score of 47-30.
Next up…a home game against the Olathe East Hawks on Monday the 13th. Following that, two more games against Shawnee Mission Schools…North on the 16th and South on the 23rd.
Lancers Fall to Cougars (2/4)
The Lancers fell behind early and trailed Shawnee Mission Northwest 22-8 at halftime. In the second half, the Lancer defense only gave up 6 points. However, the offense couldn’t quite make up the difference (outscoring the Cougars 13-6 in the second half) as the Lancers lost 28-21.
Next up, the Lancers play an away game against Olathe South on Monday the 6th.
Lancers Tame Lions; Capture Overtime Win (2/2)
Resilient. Determined. Once again, the Lancers never gave up. The Lancers found themselves playing catch-up all game against Lawrence. After being down by 8 points at the end of the 1st quarter, the Lancers got within 4 points for a 14-10 half-time deficit. The Lions extended their lead to 9 points going into the 4th quarter. But then, the game changed. The Lancers started hitting shots and getting stops on defense. Still, with less than 30 seconds to play, the Lancers were down by 2 points. The Lancers regained possession and then hit a shot with 5 seconds to go to send the game to overtime. In overtime, the Lancers gave up a quick basket, but it would be the last basket that Lawrence would score. The Lancers then scored the next 4 points, took their first lead of the game, and held on for the 36-34 win. Way to go Lancers!
Next up…a rematch with rival Shawnee Mission Northwest. The teams have split two games this season. Game time is set for 11:30 Saturday morning.
Lancers Beat Raiders; Grab 3rd Place in Tourney (1/26 & 1/28)
The Lancers hosted the second annual SME Sophomore Basketball tournament and earned 3rd place with a convincing 43-29 victory over Shawnee Mission South. The Lancers led throughout the game and continued to extend their advantage after a 6 point lead at halftime. The Lancers were close to sweeping the tournament but suffered two close losses. The Lancers lost by 3 points to Shawnee Mission Northwest and by 2 points to Shawnee Mission West.
Next up…the Lancers play the Lawrence Lions this Thursday night at home and travel to Shawnee Mission Northwest on Saturday for a rematch with the Cougars. The Lancers and Cougars have split two games this season.
Lancers Win ”Thriller” in Overtime (1/24)
Behind all game, the Lancers never gave up. The Lancers found themselves down by 8 points at the half-time break to rival Shawnee Mission Northwest. Then, they started to chip away at the Cougars’ lead with a consistent full-court press, solid defense, and good ball control and shooting. By the start of the 4th quarter, the margin was down to 2 points. During the latter part of the 4th quarter, the teams exchanged the lead several times until the game ended in a tie at the buzzer. In the overtime period, the Lancers grabbed the lead and held on by outscoring the Cougars 7-2 for the final 49-44 win. Great comeback…way to go Lancers!
Lancers’ Comeback Falls Just Short (1/9)
The Lancers staged a furious 4th quarter comeback that came up 4 points short in a loss at Olathe North. The Lancers were down throughout the first three quarters by as many as 10-12 points and found themselves behind by 8 points at the end of the 3rd quarter. In the 4th quarter, the Lancers outscored the Eagles 13-9 and got within 3 points on a couple of occasions before the end of the game. The Lancers utilized a full court press to turn the ball over and made several of their shots to put pressure on the Eagles. In the end, the Eagles were able to hang on for the win.
Next up, the Lancers play their first home game in more than a month as they host Shawnee Mission West on Saturday morning at 11:30. The Lancers played the Vikings earlier this season in a losing effort and hope to even the season series with the Vikings this weekend.
Lancers Ring In New Year with a Win (1/5)
The Lancers overcame a sluggish 1st quarter to win their first game of the New Year with a 46-28 score at Leavenworth. The first quarter found the Lancers down 10-4. However, they stormed back on a 17-2 run in the 2nd quarter to take a 21-12 lead into halftime. In the second half, the Lancers built on their lead and never let the Pioneers get close for the final victory margin of 18 points. Aggressive defense, good shot making, and solid ball control made the difference in the final three quarters.
Next up, one more road game before a string of home games. The Lancers play at Olathe North on Monday the 9th. Game time is currently set at 7:30pm.
Vikings Halt Lancers’ Three Game Winning Streak (12/17)
The Vikings used an aggressive defense and made timely shots for a 30-16 win over the Lancers at Shawnee Mission West. The Lancers drew close on a couple of occasions but could not make enough consistent shots to keep pace with West. The Lancers will get another shot at West when the two teams play at SME in January. The loss dropped the Lancers’ record to 3-2 and marked the last game before the Holiday Break. The Lancers are in action again after the New Year at Leavenworth on January 5th.

Strong Second Half Propels Lancers to Victory (12/12)
The Lancers outscored Shawnee Mission South 26-2 in the second half thanks to solid shots and assists from every player and a strong team defense. When it was over, the Lancers won their home opener 43-13. The Lancers nearly shut out the Raiders in the second half until the Raiders scored a basket in the final minute of the game. The win moves the Lancers’ record to 3-1 on the season.
The Lancers are in a stretch of games where they play 6 of their first 7 games on the road. Next up is a game at Shawnee Mission West on Saturday the 17th. Game time with the Vikings is set at 12 noon.
Lancers Beat Indians for Second Win (12/10)
Despite a slow start in the first quarter, the Lancers took control and beat the Shawnee Mission North Indians by 17 points for a 33-16 win at SM North. It was the fewest points allowed by the Lancers in the young season. The Lancers bring a 2-1 record to their home opener with rival Shawnee Mission South. The game with the Raiders is set for 5:30pm in the Aux Gym.
Lancers Win First Game of Season (12/5)
The Lancers scored their first victory of the season with a 41-29 win over the Blue Valley North Mustangs at BV North. The Lancers established a lead in the first quarter and built upon the lead throughout the game for the final 12 point margin. The Lancers are now 1-1 and continue their season this Saturday with their third road game in a row at Shawnee Mission North. Game time is set for 11:30am.
Tough Opening Game (12/1)
The sophomore team lost to Aquinas Thursday evening 48-26. After being down 31-6 at half-time the girls came back to with the 2nd half 20-17, but it wasn’t quite enough for a victory. Great comeback Lancers!
