Welcome to Austin Klumpe who has been named the new head girls basketball coach for Shawnee Mission East High School. Klumpe will also become a full time business teacher for the high school. For 2012-2013, he served as an assistant women’s basketball coach for Emporia State University. The ESU Lady Hornets advanced to the 2013 NCAA Division II Sweet 16 and won the 2013 MIAA Conference Tournament. The Lady Hornets placed three members on the South Central All-Region Team, as well as three players earning Second Team, Third Team, and Honorable Mention All-Conference awards.
Before coming to ESU, Coach Klumpe served as an assistant coach for the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and Murray State College women’s basketball programs. While at MSC, he helped coach two student-athletes to First and Third Team All-Region honors, one National Player of the Week award, and one Honorable Mention All-American award. Along with coaching, Klumpe was a business instructor as well for MSC.
From 2009-2011, Coach Klumpe served as a graduate assistant men’s basketball coach for Emporia State University and completed his Master of Science in Business Education. For the 2008-2009 basketball season, he served as a student assistant for the Emporia State women’s basketball program, which advanced to the second round of the 2009 NCAA Division II Tournament.
Klumpe graduated from McPherson College in May 2007. While obtaining his bachelor of science in business administration, he played four years for the McPherson College men’s basketball program. Coach Klumpe grew up in Madison, Kansas where he received his high school diploma from Madison High School.

Congratulations to our junior Lancer girls basketball players who were nominated and recently inducted into the Shawnee Mission East National Honor Society: Emily Dodd, Brit Hoffman, Erin McGinley, Molly Ross, Elieen Sieck, and Ellen St. Clair. Members are nominated and selected by the SME faculty and have to meet specific academic and community service criteria. The four pillars of NHS are Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Character. Way to go ladies!
